Medal for Innovation 2022: Céline Vallot, a new lead against cancer

December 22, 2022 - 10 min reading

Each year, the CNRS medals are awarded to researchers and staff who make an outstanding contribution to the institution's dynamism and reputation. Discover the research work of Céline Vallot, winner of the 2022 Innovation Medal. This medal honors outstanding research in the areas of technology, therapeutics, economics or society.

Looking for a new way to fight cancer

In many cancer cases, tumor progression and resistance processes cannot be explained by DNA mutations. This is why Céline Vallot and her team are focusing on non-genetic mechanisms, in particular epigenetics, which can explain the adaptability of cancer cells.

She is the co-inventor of two patent families and two software programs, enabling interactive and rapid analysis of cellular data by people without special computational skills, such as biologists and physicians looking for new therapeutic targets. The CNRS research director at the Dynamics of genetic information: fundamental bases and cancer laboratory (CNRS/Institut Curie/Sorbonne University) founded the start-up One Biosciences which aims to become a world leader in precision medicine for complex diseases.

"Innovation goes hand in hand with research: multidisciplinary in nature, it allows us to ask new questions, break down silos and remain competitive," says Céline Vallot.
