Job offers and candidate area

Registration for the 2024 external competition is now closed. The next campaign will start in June 2025.

Only registered candidates can access their application file in the candidate area.

Application procedure

CNRS competitions are open to all, regardless of age or origin, and are based exclusively on professional criteria. Special arrangements may be made for pregnant candidates, people with disabilities or those benefiting from an employment obligation.

If you are interested in more than one competition, you can submit several applications. Your applications will be examined independently by separate juries. Competitions can be registered online. If you have any questions, we'll be happy to help. CNRS competition juries are made up of CNRS engineers and technicians. Sovereign and independent, they examine each application carefully, in compliance with competition regulations and good recruitment practice. The jury's assessment of your application will be based on the information contained in your file. You must take particular care in putting together your application and completing all the sections, which will be carefully examined by the jury. You will find all the details and advice you need to prepare for the competition in the candidates' guide.

Calendars and juries

The external competitions take place in 2 phases, admissibility and admission, each comprising one or more compulsory or optional tests.

Depending on the competition, the eligibility phase takes place between July and September.

  • For the IR (research engineer), IE (design engineer), AI (assistant engineer) and TR (research technician) competitions, the eligibility phase consists of the jury's examination of the applications, ranking them in order of merit, and then drawing up the list of candidates who will be able to take the final admission test(s).
  • For ATR competitions, candidates are invited to take a written or technical test to assess their general knowledge of the job in question. The juries score and rank the applications in order of merit, and then draw up a list of candidates who will be allowed to take the final admission test(s).

Depending on the competition, the admission phase takes place from late July to early November.

It consists of an audition before the jury. In certain BAPs, and for access to certain bodies, it may be preceded by a written or practical technical test, drawn up according to the field of the job for which the competition is being held. The technical test is designed to test candidates' technical skills through questions or practical cases.

Candidates who have been declared eligible and whose requests for equivalence have been accepted are entitled to take part in the admission tests. Candidates whose requests for equivalence are rejected by the committee may not take part in the admission tests, even if they are declared eligible.
