Portrait of Frank Grimaud, CNRS Crystal Medal 2022, in charge of the operational maintenance of the seismic monitoring network of the Pyrenees within the Institute for Research in Astrophysics and Planetology /OMP.

Frank Grimaud supervises about forty seismological observation stations. The spectrum of his interventions is wide: research and construction of new sites, equipment maintenance, data validation. With two professional reconversions to his credit, his career path shows an unfailing commitment. First, he was a cook at the Pic du Midi (Midi-Pyrénées Observatory). After three years of training, he became a computer technician, and in 2007, he joined the BASS2000 solar database and became a seismology technician. He has been involved in several large-scale projects and participated in the EQUIPEX RESIF for the deployment of a dense and homogeneous network of seismological sensors in France and in the characterization of soils in the West Indies. His current activities are focused on the development of an innovation to associate earthquakes and gas releases on the basis of natural hydrogen sensors. He is also very active with school and university students to share his field experience.
